Hi – Is it possible – in any shape or form – to link my Instagram account without going through Facebook?

    Here’s some background – it’s extra/optional information:

People use social media. So we have an Instagram account, that’s all good. But to run Instagram ads or to even view Instagram on our website, FB demand you have a Facebook account.

So OK, sure, I’ll create a FB account for the business. FB: You can’t do that without a personal FB account. Me: But I don’t want a personal FB account – it’s irrelevant. I just want to give you money in a professional advertising arrangement, like a normal business transaction. But OK, I’ll create a personal FB page. FB then gives us a garbage business URL which we can’t change. And then a few weeks later FB suspends the personal FB account, for ‘violations’ – but obviously because there’s no activity on it. Well there’s no activity on it because I don’t want it.

So it seems in order to do something basic such as display business Instagram posts on our website, FB require someone to be personally active on Facebook. Goes to show what they’re really about, not that it’s a mystery.

Anyway, that’s the scenario. Regarding Smash Balloon, can anyone suggest a way around this? Also, if I may ask – are there any solutions to this general problem?

    Thanks.

    Hey @jason9j,

Thank you for reaching out to us for assistance. You can still connect each Instagram account using the Personal connection. When clicking the Connect an Instagram Account select personal then log directly into the Instagram account of your choice, then select it when sent back to the plugin settings, select ‘Add to Primary Feed’ and Save Changes.

The differences between connecting through the Business API and Personal are minor in the free version of the difference, and it does not affect which posts you can display. You can find the differences listed here.

If you are having issues connecting your account, let us know where you are running into these issues or which posts you can’t display, as an example there are some types of posts that are not available via the Instagram API.

    Best regards.

Thanks Joel. Smash Balloon seems to be the only integration I’ve found that allows this. Awesome!
