    When targeting a tab, the default tab should be closed with only the targeted tab shown.

    As the site is using custom CSS to display the tabs, I suspect that this is causing the issue. If you temorarily remove the code/css for the custom display so the default tab styles are shown, this should work as expected, and if you can compare the CSS to find the issues introduced by the custom styles.

    OK, I have done some more testing. I’ve installed the plugin on a blank site and can reproduce the behavior with no CSS changes.

    It seems to doesn’t override the open="yes" that is present in the tab. Instead, the tab with “open” is shown alongside the “target” tab.

    I assumed the target tab would override the open tab?

    Using the open=”yes” shortcode parameter will prevent the target parameter from operating. You do not need to add the open parameter to the first tab of any tab group as this should be open by default
