    Hi,

I have been using Wordfence on numerous websites for years and I’ve encountered a new issue.

On a site I have hosted at Cloudways (Google server) I keep getting the messages to optimize the firewall. When I do so, I get the success message saying it has been optimized. But the next day that same message comes back and shows in the Wordfence dashboard that it has yet to be optimized. I go through the same steps and the same thing keeps happening anew every day.

I have tried disabling and deleting the Wordfence plugin and re-installing it multiple times, but that hasn’t helped.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @rckronick

I would like to have a look at your Wordfence diagnostics report when the firewall is NOT optimized. Please go to the top of the “Diagnostics” tab on the Wordfence “Tools” page. There will be a “SEND REPORT BY EMAIL” button to send the diagnostics report. Enter wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com as the email and rckronick as the forum username please.

Once you have emailed me the diagnostics report can you reply here to let me know that it has been sent. This is important in the unlikely event that your installation of WordPress is having an issue with sending mail.

    Hi @wfphil,

Thank you for your message. I have done as you requested and sent the diagnostics report while not optimized.

    Looking forward to your response.

    Hi @rckronick

    Thank you for the update.

The diagnostics report hasn’t arrived so your WordPress installation may have a problem sending mail.

Please go to the top of the Diagnostics tab on the Wordfence Tools page. If you have at least Wordfence version 7.4.9 installed then there will be an EXPORT button at the top of the page to export a diagnostics report text file.

Send an email to wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com and attach the text file to the email.

You must put rckronick in the email subject field so I can find it.

Let me know when the email has been sent.

    Hi @rckronick

    Thank you for the update.

It appears that you will need to ask Cloudways how to permanently disable the bot protection feature below.

    https://www.cloudways.com/blog/announcing-bot-protection/

Once that has been done then you can optimize the firewall again and it should stay optimized.

@wfphil That fixed it. Thank you!
