• Hi all,

I have upgraded to 5.7 like many have, and am having this strange issue. I have done a cursory search with the engine here and didn’t come up with anything.

My site is pretty much all embedded links, and I typically place them inside the “columns” block. I had not edited my site since I upgraded and today I am trying to edit and am running into this issue.

I can add a brand new embedded link ok, either on the page by itself or within the columns block, but I can no longer edit the link after the initial embed because the “edit bar” no longer pops up.

Instead, one of two things happens:

    1) No bar at all pops up

    2) For the column block, the wrong edit bar will pop up for the wrong part of the “column table”

For example, if I have 3 columns, and I click on the embedded content in the left column, normally the edit bar would pop up so I can do various things including edit the link. Now, the column edit bar for a different column pops up instead.

I installed the jquery migrate helper plugin and this did not help. I have cleared the cache and disabled all plugins. Disabling all plugins actually made things worse as most of my embedded content was replaced with a simple text “0” (which is also a new bug that I haven’t seen before).

So, I can technically edit the site, adding new content seems to be the same, but if I want to edit these embedded links, I’ll have to switch to code view and change them there, which completely defeats the purpose of using a visual editor.

Has anyone seen this or have any ideas of how to at least work around it? Thanks for any help?

Update: Sporadic fix found. What has happened is that for whatever reason, they changed the area you can click on to select the embedded content or an individual cell within a column.

They changed it from any part of the text or surrounding area (not picture and not title), to now it is just a very slim height bar underneath the cell. It is super slim, literally 1/8 of an inch on my screen/res. at most.

However, I have tested this with many different embeds I have and it does not work with all of them. It is hard to click the right spot, and even when you do, sometimes it highlights the embed but then still shows the incorrect edit bar for another cell in the column block (if you’re using columns).

It’s erratic. So, finding this will help some of the time, and for the rest, I’ll still have to edit the code, and for the column block, you cannot select “edit as html”. You have to go into the full code viewer, which takes more time because then you have to hunt down the right code section within a sea of code, or use Ctrl F to find the text.

I had been clicking all over the text area which is where I used to click, it was quick, easy and made sense, and that no longer triggers the edit bar.

I don’t know why they made that change. It seems unnecessary and unhelpful. All it will do for me is waste extra seconds of my time trying to click the right spot & and then some of the time having to go into code mode. Fortunately for me, I don’t do a lot of link editing. Usually I get what I need the first time.

If this is a bug, then it needs addressing, but whether it is a bug or not, and assuming many others are affected, then there should be an announcement made about the change/bug so that people understand how to highlight the embed from now on. The old way is obviously vastly superior to this new added hassle.
