• We use Contact Form 7 on our Home page (when you click Got a Question? Ask a Quaker!). The form requires the person to provide their name and email address. Someone recently tried to use this form, but the message we received displayed our WordPress email address ([email protected]) rather than the sender’s email address, so we have no way to reply to the sender. The additional header didn’t appear at all.

The form worked when we tested it several years ago, but I thought I would see if I could fix the problem. I changed the From field to say [your-email] rather than [your-name]. However, that caused an invalid mailbox syntax error. So I changed it back to [your-name], and it’s still displaying a syntax error. Now the form won’t work at all!

Also, our form has [recaptcha] on it, and when I tried to use the form myself, I noticed that the [recaptch] didn’t appear on the form. Now that the syntax is invalid, when I click Send, I just get a spinning icon and no feedback (nothing from the Messages page appears). I’m hoping you can help me fix whatever is wrong! Thanks!

The syntax error is related to the From field. I don’t remember how I originally had it set up, but both [your-name] and [your-email] caused syntax errors. I changed it so that the To and From fields were the same ([email protected]), but I’m not sure how that will affect the messages we receive. I would like the From field to display the email address of the person who completed the form, but perhaps that’s not possible?

After I fixed the syntax error on the From field, I changed the To field to my personal email address and completed the form using a different name and email address. However, after I clicked Send, I just got a spinning icon; it never did send anything. I’m not sure why that happened.

In addition, the Message Body field is set up like this:

    From: [your-name] <[your-email]>
    Subject: [your-subject]

    Message Body:
    [your-message]

This e-mail was sent from a contact form on Cincinnati Friends Meeting (https://cincinnatifriends.org)

However, when someone does successfully complete the form, their email address does not appear after From, only the name appears. Fortunately, because Additional Headers is set to Reply-To: [your-email], we’re able to see the person’s email address when we reply. However, it would be nice to see it in the message body in case we need to forward the email rather than reply directly.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

Also, I installed and activated ReCaptcha v2 for Contact Form 7. As far as I can tell, my Google reCAPTCHA admin page looks good, but when I put the [recaptcha] tag on the Form page, when I view the form, I get an error that says “ERROR for site owner: Invalid key type.” I’m not sure how to fix that. ??

Again, many thanks for your help!

Just thought I would follow up on this thread. I have disabled Contact Form 7 on our website and just use a mailto command because of the problems with the form. However, I far prefer your form because of the ability to use reCAPTCHA to prevent spam.

Any suggestions on fixing the problems described above would be most welcomed!
