[Plugin: StatCounter – Free Real Time Visitor Stats] Updated and got the “white screen of death”

    Updated the stat-counter plugin and at the next log-in got the “white screen of death”, meaning I was logged in but the screen was blank.

    Solution: Rename the plugins folder, then log in. Plugins will be reported as missing. Log out, rename folder back to plugins, then log in again. All plugins will be deactivated. I activated all plugins one after the other, and when it came to stat-counter I received an error message, and the system was stuck yet again. I started the same procedure again, but this time without activating the stat-counter, and the blog works fine.

    Needless to say, I won’t install the stat-counter ever again. It took me hours to find a solution, and I needed to write a paid article. Not a good timing.

  • All you have to do is delete the plug in folder and the wp dash will come back up again. ??

    I’m sorry to hear about your bad experience using the plugin.

    We just rolled out an update over the weekend for it. It was working fine in our tests but unfortunately there were some situations where this error occurred.

    We immediately rolled out a fix when we were notified of this problem. If you would like to get the latest plugin for StatCounter now it is working correctly. One of the improvements we rolled out is allowing you to view your StatCounter stats without ever leaving your wordpress dash!

    I apologise for the trouble caused to you and we will add a test for this problem to the usual checks we do before releasing any updates. So something like this won’t happen again. I hope you will give the plugin another chance!
