SMTP: A bug, or how it is?

    Hi all. Coming from the Joomla! world, I am used to being able to change SMTP settings in the admin area of a Joomla! site. Am I understanding it correctly with WordPress that in order to use, for example, SES or any external SMTP server, I need a plugin? In Joomla! you could make this selection in core settings, as seen here: https://prnt.sc/10z38uv
