Subscribe menu item

In the customizer, I’m able to add a subscribe menu item, however, it doesn’t open the modal when I click on it. When in the admin side, under appearance–>menus I don’t even see an option to add a subscribe menu item so I’m thinking this is not a supported feature. Is this even possible? If not is there a work around? Or maybe its on the roadmap?
