• To concur with a review that said “promises a lot, delivers little”, I’d like to upgrade this statement to “delivers ExactlyNothing?”.

    My UX:

    1. install the plugin
    2. open a page editor and try adding a Modula block to the page

    Result: a block appears with a Modula Gallery logo and a huge button colored like a fungicide based on copper salts, saying “Upgrade to PRO to create galleries using a preset ( fastest way )”. And that’s it folks. There was LiterallyNothing? that I could do with that block, other than clicking that blasted button. No active UI in the block properties pane either, just another badge with a logo and a slogan – not clickable, not expandable, not anything.

    The author of this plugin has one thing to say in response to reviews by users like me: “striking a balance [between free features and business model, presumably] is hard”. But they’re not even trying! Seemingly the only purpose of the free version is to throw so many BUY BUY BUY nags in user’s way so early in the process as to completely obscure any intuition about how to use the plugin. This and “striking the balance” have never visited each other’s planets.

    @rulatir – Hey,

    I think this is the most well crafted review I’ve read about Modula. It shows you’ve put quite some effort into writing it. I’m really sorry for the poor experience we’ve delivered.

    Normally, the Modula block, when used in the block editor, should look like this:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/fee1qee60wmfswo/Screenshot%202021-05-04%20at%2012.04.16.png?dl=0

    You have an upsell as well as the possibility of inserting an image gallery, you’ve already created.

    However, after this review we’ve tried figuring out HOW on Earth it was possible to land in a scenario where the “select an existing image gallery” button doesn’t show up. And we found it – it’s when you haven’t already created a gallery with Modula.???♂?

    A huge oversight on our part and a totally deserved 1* review. In our next update, we’ll address this by displaying a message there, informing users that they should actually go ahead and create a gallery first.

    The only reason WHY we haven’t yet migrated into building galleries straight from the block editor is because we haven’t yet figured out a way to display ALL of the settings each gallery can have (which is, a LOT).

    Again, thank you so much for taking the time to write your thoughts here.

    Much love,
    /Cristian.

    P.S: I’ve opened up an issue re. this and we’ll address it in the shortest possible time: https://github.com/WPChill/modula-lite/issues/559
