I create my blog posts using Page Builder and the Visual Editor widget. With my most recent post, when I added an image with a caption and configured it be medium size (about 169 x 300) and left-aligned to have the text wrap around it, everything looks fine in the editor. However, when I save the draft and preview the post, the image is cropped–not quite an even 150×160 thumbnail, but definitely cutting off the top portion of the image.

I’ve been using the same procedure for creating posts with images for years; this is the first time it’s given me problems. I even tried positioning the image on the right and saved, but even then, the image was positioned on the left when I previewed. This makes me suspect that it’s a preview problem rather than a Page Builder or Visual Editor problem, but I don’t want to post unless I know that the image looks correct. Any suggestions?

    Hi, thanks for reaching out.

I took a look at the post A Closing Remark of My Own. The first left-aligned image is 150 x 150. Is there perhaps a change if you temporarily deactivate Site Accelerator at Jetpack > Settings?

Thanks for taking a look! That particular post is fine, as are all the others. The problem is with one I haven’t published yet. I’m not sure if you can access the site as an admin, but the problematic post is Welcome Bill Williams (https://cincinnatifriends.org/?p=7775&preview=true). If you edit the post, you can see that the picture is 169 x 300 and shows both Bill and his baby grandson. However, if you preview the page, all you see is the grandson! I’ve tried making the image right-aligned rather than left-aligned, using a size other than medium, inserting it next to a different paragraph, all to no avail!

As far as I can tell, we haven’t set up Jetpack at all, so I don’t see Jetpack > Settings.

    Sure, no problem.

We, unfortunately, can’t view posts that aren’t yet published.

Images are being delivered by the WordPress CDN, which’s usually done via Jetpack Site Accelerator which used to be called Photon. If Jetpack isn’t installed I guess another plugin could be providing that functionality, I’m not quite sure.

If you could find a way to show us the issue live, that’ll be great.

    Thanks

Do you want to schedule a Zoom meeting? I can do most weekday evenings after 7 or anytime Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. I just don’t want to publish the post because an email will be sent to all our subscribers, and I don’t want them to see it if the photo will be truncated.

That’s an understandable distinction. ?? Perhaps I’ll publish the post late in the evening, before anyone looks at the email notification, and then see if the image truncation is just a problem with the preview. If that’s the case, then all is well. If the problem persists, then I can remove the image before anyone sees it.

Thanks for the update. You could perhaps try creating a test page and see if the issue occurs there. That way there won’t be any email notification issues.

I’m still a bit of a rookie as a webmaster and not sure how to create a test page other than using the Preview feature. But I appreciate your responsiveness. Whether or not a blog post has a photo is not a huge matter. ??

Hi, no problem. You could create a test page by going to Pages > Add New. Name the page any name that you’d like. Try to recreate the error. If you can, send me the link to the page. Once we’re done you can delete it.

Andrew, I just wanted to thank you for your kind assistance through all this! Wondering if the problem with the image was the file format, I deleted the existing JPG from our media library and tried to upload a GIF or PNG. When I did that, I got an error message about the server being busy or not having enough resources, but the message also mentioned that the image should not be more then 2500 pixels (wide or high, it didn’t say). So I tried using my photo editor to resize the JPG so that it was only 533 pixels high (about the height I wanted anyway), and voila! The photo was no longer being cropped in the preview. I just posted it, and all looks good: https://cincinnatifriends.org/welcome-bill-williams.

Thank you again for offering your support!

Hi ?? Thanks for the follow-up, I’m really glad to hear you’re making progress. It’s possible the image dimensions or format was part of the problem. It’s hard to say without diving in a bit deeper. Thanks again for the message; all the best with your website. If any SiteOrigin questions arise in the future, please, open a new thread and we’ll assist from there.

    Cheers for now.
