If I want to restore the unwatermarked images could I and how? The image overwrite will have a negative effect on serp’s rank for images. How could avoid it please? These image files have meta data info for SEO. I don’t want to change the images.

    Hello,

There is no way to add watermark, but do not replace image.
If you need watermark on images, but without replace it in WordPress, then you can make watermarked image on your computer with help of image editor, save with needed meta data and then upload it to WordPress.

    Oleg

    Hello Oleg,

I found a plugin which works as I want but it may no longer be maintained or supported. It’s last update was 4 years ago. This is the link:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/alti-watermark/

It works without change the image files.

Watermark is placed on your images through a htaccess and php file. This means your images are actually not modified. You can still download them from your FTP, and they will not have any watermark.

    kind regards
    George

    Hello,

This plugin doing same thing and replace image with own generated image, but on image load.

Our plugin make backup for original image and then replace it with watermarked image.

We do not apply watermarks on the fly, because it is slow down page load.

    Regards,
    Oleg
