• Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your amazing plugin! We use it for a lot of our clients WooCommerce webshops.

There is one issue we’ve been running into. We have several cases where we need both the product variation ID as the product variation SKU in Tag Manager, especially on add to cart events. For example, Pinterest requires us to send the SKU for an add to cart, whereas Facebook requires the product ID.

At this moment, we can only choose one of both, by toggling ‘Use SKU instead of product ID’ under the WooCommerce Integration tab.

We would love to have an option to send both the SKU as the product ID to the data layer. Would it be possible to integrate this functionality?

    Thanks,
    Marijn.

    Hi Marijn,

The enhanced ecommerce product object has officially one ID parameter that can either include the product ID or your SKU.

How would it look like to add both?
Shall I add an unofficial “sku” product parameter?

    Hi Thomas,

An unofficial sku product parameter would be fantastic! It’s just needed for other channels like Facebook and Pinterest, but indeed it’s not needed for enhanced e-commerce tracking (in Google Analytics). If it’s there as an product parameter in the enhanced ecommerce object, we can extract it in a separate variable in use cases where we need it.

    Thanks,
    Marijn

Could you check this on my dev site?

For as far as I can see, this looks perfect!

I didn’t saw any variable products in your catalog. Therefor I couldn’t check if the variation SKU will be placed in the data layer on an add-to-cart event for a variable product (instead of the parent SKU, which needs to be placed in the data layer for simple products).

Could you verify that perhaps, or place a variable product in the catalog?

    Thanks!

Haha, not sure how I missed that, sorry! Looks all good and fine to me, would be great if you’re able to publish this in an update!

    Hi Thomas,

Do you have any estimation as to when this feature will be released? We can’t wait to get started! ??

    Cheers,

There is no specific date set but not before July.

Currently I am doing a much bigger rewrite: I remove the jQuery dependency from GTM4WP and rewriting JS for WooCommerce is a heavy task. It will also need extensive testing before it can be released.

    Hi Thomas,

How are you doing? Are there any updates on when we can expect this feature in the plugin? ??

    Thanks!

    Hi Thomas,

Don’t want to bother you, but just checking in if there is any update regarding this feature. We’re still waiting for it to make some last tracking implementations in Google Tag Manager.

    Looking forward to your reply!

    Thanks,

    Hi,

If you have a dev version of your site, you could test the latest beta:
    https://github.com/duracelltomi/gtm4wp/releases

This should include both the SKU and the ID and if you see any other issues, it would be very welcome to report for me in order to have a very stable release of v1.14
