    Hi,

Today, I see a breadcrumb error in my search console. It says “Either “name” or “item.name” should be specified” for my https://greentealobby.com/tag/cardiovascular-disease/ page.

I have the breadcrumbs disabled in the Search Appearance settings of the Yoast SEO plugin and don’t have it as a theme feature too.

    Please assist.

    Thank you.

@nishagarg We’re sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue on your site.

We understand that Google Search Console is reporting a warning saying that ‘either name or item.name should be specified’.

The Yoast SEO plugin takes the name from the page name. In this case, it could be that the name is missing from your front page. Can you please check the page you’re using as your front page and make sure you’ve added a title to this page?

If not, does adding the title resolve the issue?

@devnihil Thank you for your response. I am sorry but I did not understand what you mean here by the front page. Are you referring to the homepage page title?

Trying to figure it out. Please see – https://prnt.sc/139grpc

@nishagarg Yes, with front page we mean the homepage. But since error is reporting for this tag page https://greentealobby.com/tag/cardiovascular-disease/, please edit this particular tag page and input the custom breadcrumb title.

To add a custom breadcrumb title, please follow the steps here.https://yoast.com/help/the-breadcrumbs-title-setting/

We hope this should resolve the issue.

An error appeared in the Google Search console Specify “name” or “item.name” – there is no such error in version 16.1.1. This refers to the name of the current page

@bahinnn We are sorry you’re having this issue. Per the forum guidelines, we ask that you please create a separate topic for the issue you are experiencing.

That way it’s easier to track issues and provide assistance on your specific concerns on your specific site. Plus, you will get your own alerts for the issue rather than someone else’s. You may make a new topic here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/wordpress-seo/#new-post.

I wanted to create a new theme, but why produce them – the same? especially since I just rolled back the plugin to the working version. (in general, it’s time to look for an alternative)

@bahinnn we’re sorry for the inconvenience. We want to remind you that per the forum guidelines, we ask that you please create a separate topic for the issue you are experiencing.

@suascat_wp I have the breadcrumbs disabled. Do you think it still needs any changes? Also, I couldn’t find the steps mentioned at https://yoast.com/help/the-breadcrumbs-title-setting/. Maybe the update has different options now.

Also, it is the “tags” page where the error shows up. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

    Hi @nishagarg

Even if you’ve disabled the breadcrumbs feature in the Yoast SEO settings, it will still output the relevant breadcrumb schema in the Yoast SEO schema graph. You’ll need to modify the schema graph if you want to remove all traces of the breadcrumb output – https://developer.yoast.com/features/schema/overview/

Is this a standard WordPress tag page that is created from your posts? If so, you can go to your WP admin dashboard > Posts (sidebar) > Tags > and click on ‘edit’ on the relevant tag. Please make sure the ‘name’ field of the tag is populated.

Then scroll down and locate the Yoast SEO meta box. If so, please find the advanced tab and add a ‘breadcrumbs title’ and then save the changes.

Can you then check the URL again in Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool and see if it is still outputting the same ‘either name or item.name should be specified’ error?

@mikes41720 I tried the steps you mentioned. Yes, it is a standard tag page and I do have the tag “name” mentioned. Also, when I scroll down to the advanced tab, it does not show
“breadcrumbs title” option to me. Please see – https://prnt.sc/13ca1mp

To make it work, I also removed the “Page” variable from the SEO title tag but the search console still displays it as a missing Unnamed item.

I have gone through every single element but it does not seem to go. Where am I going wrong?

Could you please check if breadcrumb is enabled in SEO > Search Appearance > Breadcrumbs(tab)? This should enable the Breadcrumb Title in Yoast SEO Metabox.

@mikes41720 @suascat_wp @devnihil I really appreciate all the help so far.

So, finally what I did is I deleted the tag page, recreated it, and then tested it in the search console. Interestingly, it worked as a valid item. Also, I removed the “Page” variable from the SEO title tag which is the default. For now, it has shown it green and the “validate fix” is processing.

Not sure what was wrong with this particular tag page, but it looks good now.

    @suascat_wp I have it disabled.
