Spacing in post appears differently on Firefox/IE

  • When you view my websites ‘Products’ page you will see that the spacing between the product image thumbnails are more distant in Internet Explorer 8 than in Firefox/Chrome/Safari. I’d like to have the spacing between the thumbnails close to each other (as visible on Firefox/Chrome/Safari), I’ve tried two different methods of spacing:

    1. </br>
    2.  

    The ‘ ‘ seems to work much better than </br>, but the spacing discrepancy is still there when viewed on Internet Explorer 8. Any help on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!

  • You could start by sorting out the validation errors on the site. Then move onto the CSS errors.

    Thanks for the response Esmi. I Wish I was experienced enough to sort through all these errors. I see dozens of errors listed for the PayPal Shopping Cart button which I would think should be error free…

    Since this is just a spacing issue would you be able to point me in the right direction? All I need to do is have the spacing consistent between each product image.

    With almost 200 errors on the link you provided, I wouldn’t know where to start.

    Thanks Esmi. I created tables and now the spaces are same in all browsers, however there are still 136 errors…

    I have one question. What are the negative effects of these errors? Will it hurt my search engine ranking in any way? Or are these simply formatting errors that don’t necessarily do any damage unless they are visually displeasing?

    This is an on going argument within the web design, development, PR world. Though in my experience, validation does not effect SEO.

    What it does effect is browser compatibility, and most of the time it is the cause of initiating Quirks Mode.
