Is this plugin compatible with WordPress Multisite? We run a very large multisite network, and we are being required to add a security-related disclaimer to the comment field. So far, this plugin is the only one we’ve found that will do what we need, but it’s unclear whether it is compatible with WordPress Multisite.

There are other plugins that customize the comment form, but we’re not finding any that are compatible with Multisite, with the exception of the “de:Comments” plugin, which is somewhat expensive and includes SO many other features that we do not need. We just need a simple plugin that is compatible with Multisite that will allow us to add a security-related disclaimer above the comment form.

Thank you in advance for any feedback!

    Hi abigaillaufer,

    thanks for reaching out.

I worked a lot with multisites when I developed ACF, but that is years ago and I cannot remember if I tested it on such a setup.

Since the plugin is using the WordPress API when it comes to handling options, I believe it should be compatible.

Just give it a try and let me know if something looks off. If it does, I will take another look into the code and see if there is a simple fix.

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Hi Thomas. Thank you so much! We ran tests on our end using Multisite and these were the results:

“There is an issue with multi-site installations. Installing the plugin from the network dashboard and ‘network activating’ just makes the plugin available to the sub-sites on the network. One still has to configure the plugin for each sub-site. There is no way to enter the statement you want to be added above the comment form centrally. In other words, it must be entered on each sub-site. I don’t see any way to enter the notice from the main network dashboard.”

Do you know: Should we be “network activating” the plugin, or just activating it on the top-level site? Our goal is to add a security-related notice to all comment forms on all of the sub-sites.

    Thank you for any feedback!

    Hi abigaillaufer,

    thanks for testing.

When you asked about compatibility with multisite, I thought you meant if the plugin breaks on multisites. Sounds, like it doesn’t. When it comes to a feature to manage the comment form on all sub-sites then this is indeed not possible. It would need more logic and an option to do so.

If you have an experienced WordPress developer in your team then they should be able to implement this quickly. The github repository is public and I’d be happy to accept a qualified pull request if you make any changes that others could benefit from, too.

    Thanks,
    Thomas
