One of the sites I’m working on has started showing “ERROR: An error was encountered while trying to authenticate. Please try again.” whenever Wordfence’s 2FA or Captcha are activated. If I turn both off then I am able to log in fine.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hello @midnyt17 and thanks for reaching out to us!

Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

Also, could you post a screenshot of your Wordfence > Login Security > Settings page. Make sure to block out any private information!

    Thanks again!

    Hi WFAdam,

Thanks for the response. I’ve sent the diagnostic through email. And here’s the link to the screenshot of our Login Security settings: https://ibb.co/vm2HJ4S

    Thanks for sending that!

I don’t see anything that would be conflicting with our 2FA. Is this a new issue that just started?

We might want to try deleting the login security tables and seeing if that resolved the issue. The only downside to that is you will need to set up 2FA again on the site. Navigate to Wordfence > Login Security > Settings and enable “Delete Login Security Tables”. After that, disable Wordfence via the plugin page, then enable it again.

Set 2FA back up and see if this issue is still occurring.

    Thanks again!
