Coding and adding FOOTNOTES to articles in WP 2.9.2

Hello, All:

How do I code or add footnotes in my WP articles? I’ve seen several different HTML coding schemes that do NOT work with my articles.

Any suggestions?

Here’s the code I have now, using one footnote and reference as an example.
