• i have a Default Description set in the plugin settings, yet on every page that i do not add a custom description, it’s using the Title instead of the default description. so when you try to share to FB or TW, you get the Title twice without a description.

i’ve tried removing the WP Settings > General > Tagline.
i’ve tried adding “Custom Text” to the plugin settings “Homepage description”.
i’ve even tried setting the “Default descroption” to “Homepage description”.
    nothing changes.

i have noticed that by typing in the url directly into a FB or TW post, the correct Title & Description shows up. but using the “share this page” option i have at the bottom right of each page, is where it’s putting the title into the description area.

i would have thought this to be an issue with the sharing script, BUT, if you look at the source code for any page, it’s showing the pages title in the og & twitter description tags.
    so i’m confused ??

    any ideas?
    thanks!!!

    update.

i went ahead & emailed support, even tho i haven’t purchased the pro package, just in case and i did get a reply. of course telling me that they don’t provide support without the pro addon.

    but they did say this…

Regarding your issue the default description is only used on the homepage if it’s the posts page. If it’s a page, then the page excerpt is used.

this doesn’t quite make sense to me since in the plugin settings > General, it has 2 default description options – one for Homepage & one for “default”. so i understand that if i put text in a pages’ “excerpt” field OR in the plugin section of any page edit, then that would overwrite anything that’s in these “default” options. why have the option in settings if it isn’t intended to work that way? if i’m just totally not understanding something fundamental here, please correct me.

and, regarding my “share this page” script – i’ve removed that, emptied server & wp & browser caches, but the problem persists. in fact, now when i type the url into FB or TW, it’s showing the duplicate title instead ??

giving up & moving to use “Simple SEO” by David Cole.
it doesn’t have the default options, but it seems to work better & more consistently.
