Manually Translating a site

Hey,

I want to make my blog multi-lingual without using automatic translators that translate inaccurately. Because I will be handing this site over to a client I don’t want to have to use shortcodes which seems to be the non-automatic translation option out there (i.e. the translate plugin). Ideally the user would choose from a dropdown list of languages whenever they were posting something to establish which language that post should be visible under. A widget allowing users to switch from one language to another also is a must. Is there anything out there for me? Anybody have any suggestions?
