    Hi

On WordPress plugins page, it is not very professional to impose a huge message to upgrade to another plugin with no possible dismiss.

Either this upgrade is mandatory for some technical reason, either it is an advertising/information message that could be dismissed.

and it is not a “small” message!!

  • Hey, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback!

This particular plugin, WooCommerce PayPal Checkout, is being phased out soon, and replaced with the free PayPal Payments plugin, which incorporates a ton of great features into the one tidy solution. It works great with WooCommerce Subscriptions too.

You can check out the documentation and FAQ’s on Subscriptions here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/documentation/plugins/woocommerce/woocommerce-extensions/woocommerce-subscriptions/

And the documentation on PayPal Payments here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-paypal-payments/

I get your feedback that a dismiss option on the notice would be nice though. I am unable to promise that it can be implemented, but I shall relay over this suggestion to the involved teams! I appreciate your understanding here.

For anyone that does want to try upgrading to PayPal Payments, we recommend creating a staging copy of your site using a tool provided by your host or the free WP Staging plugin.

After that, we recommend following our handy PayPal Payments Upgrade Guide to connect the PayPal Payments plugin to your sandbox PayPal account by making sure to check the Sandbox option.

    Hi

Who dared mark this topic as “Resolved”???

Now we have another red frame with:

Action Required: Switch to WooCommerce PayPal Payments

As of 1 Sept 2021, PayPal Checkout is officially retired from WooCommerce.com, and support for this product will end as of 1 March 2022.
We highly recommend upgrading to PayPal Payments, the latest, fully supported extension that includes all of the features of PayPal Checkout and more.

My wish: a real competitor to Woocommerce. When any company starts to become a monopoly, they get fever, lose the sense of reality and treat customers as slaves.

    Hi,

I’m sorry that these messages aren’t dismissible, but I do think they are important for everyone to see. Perhaps our team errs on the side of caution to make sure anyone who views the plugin pages sees that message.

As you’ve noted there is a timeline set out hopefully giving everyone time to make a plan to test the PayPal Payments plugin on a staging environment. In this case PayPal Payments has all of the features of PayPal Checkout and adds more to it.

When you do have time to test the plugin on a test/staging site we’re here to help figure out any issues you might run into. In my testing I’ve not had issues using the plugin on a staging site, but obviously we’re ready to help investigate and fix anything you might find in your testing.

That doesn’t mean we expect you to run into issues, just as our Stripe extension is always being updated fixing issues so will PayPal Payments. ??

    Hi again

In what world do you live?

For each of my customer, I need to get them on the phone to have them validate PayPal account access and credentials.

This is OK ONCE for every new customer when I setup their e-commerce website.

Do you really think that I will setup a test site for each one of my customers to see what is happening?

And then make a purchase with Paypal to see if all is OK?

And then ask each one of them if they received the payment?

    And received the Paypal emails?

And then cancel the purchase and get back my money?

And ask my customers if the cancellation did happen?

And then do all this again on the real websites, without any warranty that a test website is representative of a real e-commerce website with hundreds of real and virtual products?

Maybe it is time to get out your office, breathe some fresh air and become conscious of the real world out of php, functions and hooks.

    Hi

You should know that a fully new plugin for Paypal need customer’s input and to get Paypal credentials and feedback This is at least a several hours task, and it can take several days.

This is OK of course on a new e-commerce website.

But on a already running webshop, this both irrelevant and “dangerous”. If the new plugin is broken, my customers miss orders!!!

When I chose a Paypal plugin, I chose one developed by Woocommerce team, because I thought it was a robust and long lasting one.

Of course, bugs happen to all of us.

But to decide to build a fully new plugin and not upgrade the current one is, in my opinion, a geek decision that have absolutely no idea about the real consequences of their decision.
