After I create the quiz, I use the convenient HD Quiz block to insert the quiz to the page in edit page block editor instead of a inserting a short code. The quiz appear fine on the front end page.
When I come back to the page to edit, it just show that “HD Quiz: This block will be replaced with the selected quiz”, it doesn’t show what is the selected quiz. When I click on it, it shows the select quiz dropdown. Is this a missing feature or a bug just on my site? I would like to see what is the currently selected quiz on that page.

    Hi arunkott,
this is 100% how it’s supposed to work. The block does not render the quiz when you are editing the page/post, only when you are viewing/previewing the front-end of the site – the actual live page. This is done for many reasons but some of the main ones are

    A) rendering the quiz on the WP Edit page would use up a lot of resources and make the edit page slower and more sluggish

    B) If you were to render out the full quiz it would make simple things like repositioning the block/quiz on the page a nightmare

    C) Not everyone is a WordPress pro. Most users would assume they could edit the individual answers/questions from the rendered quiz in Gutenberg – which would be impossible and create a truly poor user experience.

Pro tip: If you want to view the quiz without publishing your page, you can preview the page first.

I’ve just created a note to make the language in the block more clear for the next update to avoid confusion like this moving forward. Even though you are the first to ask about this, if one person was confused I guarantee you that several more were too, so thanks for bringing this up!

    Hi @harmonic_design

Thank you for the reply. I am sorry I did not ask my question clearly.
I do not want it to render the quiz in the block editor. I also think that the current text prompt you have is pretty clear too.

    Let me rephrase my question.
I have created 2 HD Quizes, Trivia1 and Trivia2. I created a new page, in the block editor I selected HD Quiz, I selected the Trivia1 and saved. Everything is good.

If I come back later and edit the page again, I see the HD Quiz block there but it doesn’t show me that Trivia1 is the selected quiz. if I click the block it shows the original dropdown to select Trivia1 or Trivia2. I have multiple pages and I don’t remember which quiz was added in which page.

So I was wondering if it is a missing feature. Ideally when I come back to the edit page, it should preselect in the dropdown or show a text that Trivia1 is currently selected

hope this clarifies my original question.

ooooh ok I understand now; thanks for the clarification!

Yes, the dropdown should default to the currently selected quiz, even on page reload so this is something I will need to look further into.

I was actually one of the first plugin devs to include a Gutenberg block when it was released, so this is hopefully just a compatibility bug with more recent versions. Do you know if you are using the Gutenberg plugin, or if you are just using the version built-in to WordPress? Knowing will help me debug this.

I am using built-in block editor on WP version 5.7.2
