• Hi together,

can anyone help me with this: I can’t login to my wordpress account anymore, after I type in my username and password in the …/wp/wp-login.php – page this error message appears on …/wp/wp-admin:

Unable to create directory /mnt/web4/12/07/5138807/htdocs/wp/wp-content/uploads/2010/04. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

So what can I do to get this fixed? What works is my FTP connection to my homepage.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Change the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have problems, try 767 or 777.

Thank you for answer, I tried all three suggested settings but none of them fixed the problem…

I still get the same error message, well could it be that my provider changed anything, because last week I could login properly and I didn’t change any wordpress setting since?

The uploads folder has nothing to do with logging in, so I’d use FTP to see if there’s anything fishy in the uploads folder.

Thanks so far, I checked the upload folder and nothing seems to be fishy there (as far as I can rate). But what makes me surprise is that the folder /mnt/web4/12/07/5138807/htdocs/wp/wp-content/uploads/2010/04 is already existing there, so maybe something in the path might be incorrect.

Does anyone know how (maybe be manipulating any php-files) I can get wordpress not to try to create this folder?

Like I said, logging in has nothing to do with the uploads folder. In fact, there is no uploads folder in a new WP installation and you can chose to have your uploads stored somewhere else and WP will still work. Since an uploads folder is usually a read-and-write folder, I would want to rule out that something happened to it that shouldn’t happen…
Alternally, if some file for whatever reason thinks it needs the uploads folder to log in, it might help to reupload the wp-admin folder and see if that helps.

hi Gangleri, now I got it fixed.

I looked for other forum entries having similar problems and what helped was logging directly into the database through my providers account, and looking for the “upload_path” entry in the “wp_options” table.

There the value was set to “/mnt/web4/12/07/5138807/htdocs/wp/wp-content/uploads”, changing this to only “wp-content/uploads” let me log into my wordpress account again.

Well thank you very much for your help so far, maybe this procedure can help others facing the same problem.
