How to make a premium membership website?

  • I wanted to use wp 2.9.2 in order to make a website that’ll allow the download of ebooks for it’s premium members.
    Please suggest any plugin as I don’t have any experience with premium membership websites.
    It can be done with joomla but I want to use wp
