• i’m developing a new website under wordpress.com and i want to be able to transfer the completed site to a self-hosted setup using software from www.ads-software.com.

is it possible to move everything from the wordpress.com site, including selected themes/templates, to the self-hosted setup? i’ve tried this recently but the theme did not update with the content- could this be a limitation of the hosting provider’s wordpress setup?

    thanks.

  • When you export from WordPress.com it just exports your content: Posts, Pages, Comments. It can import your images from the blog, but none of your site settings or theme files are moved.

You need to installed WordPress yourself, change the settings as you desire, add any plugins you want, and install your own theme. The importer just takes care of the content.

Luckily, all of the themes on WordPress.com are freely available for download. Most or all of them should be Theme Directory.
