• Hello –

Figured I would post here since I have spent a couple days Googling trying to find another case of this happening.

On one of our client’s sites we were using the Adminimize and User Roles and Capabilites plugins to refine the access and menus based on the Editor role. The role needed access to Menus, Widgets, etc.

However, we have since switched to using Ultimate Client Dash plugin which creates a role called “Client” and you are able to set access rules within the plugin.

The issue is that when this role is assigned to a client’s User Account, they get all of the access that we’ve defined in the plugin’s settings, but they are locked out from editing the Home page, it puts it in a “View Only” state where that role cannot edit the page.

We’ve double and triple-checked everything and cannot figure out what is causing the Home page (set in General -> Reading -> Static page) to become “View Only”?

I cannot find anything on the internet anywhere about this happening in any other case. Does anyone have any clue as to why this is happening?

    Thanks

I recommend asking at https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/ulimate-client-dash/#new-post so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.

    Hello @sterndata

I have the paid version so I’ve reached out to them previously about this issue, which they are pointing at either a plugin or theme conflict.

I was hoping to be pointed to where in the database I can check the capabilities of this specific user and possibly modify it.

It doesn’t make sense that this role can edit everything but the set Home page.

If they think this may be a plugin or theme conflict, Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

You’re using a commercial plugin, so please use their official support channel. We feel they are best equipped to support their products.

I am looking for WordPress help here

    To clarify…

We are using the same setup, Theme, Plugins, etc. on hundreds of other sites where this issue doesn’t happen, it is only happening on 2 sites so it seems it is related to WordPress itself.

    Try the troubleshooting.

It was Page related, I duplicated the Home page and set the new one as Front Page and removed the old one and now the Role can edit the Home page.

We had already tested disabling all plugins with the exception of the UCD one in order to keep the Client role for testing, switched themes, and everything in regard to normal troubleshooting, which is why I have posted here.

There was a glitch causing just THAT PAGE to be View Only by this custom role.

    >> now the Role can edit the Home page. <<

Anything custom about that old page? Any capability testing in the PHP files used to render it? That’s where I’d start looking.

Nothing really custom about it, it was just like every other page within the website, which is why it was completely strange to us.

Going to do the same on the other website that was having the same issue. Maybe just a glitch in the matrix…
