Our site has lots of pages with photo albums on them. They have been working great for months, but today we updated the plugin and every single photo album shortcode has disappeared from the pages. This is a major problem.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

PS. We are now having to go back to last nights backup, which may mean that if you look at the page you will see the photo albums appearing perfectly. As there are so many albums displayed on our pages and constitute a major part of our site we can’t leave it with none of them appearing.

Did you clear all caches, and try it with Yoast de-activated

    Thread Starter siobhanf

    (@siobhanf)

Yes, we cleared all caches, but will try to deactivate Yoast. Will let you know how we get on.

Hi, we’ve now deactivated Yoast and the shortcodes are still missing, and obviously as they’ve gone, the photo albums aren’t displaying.

Hi, just letting you know we’ve now restored.

I see you are back on 7.x

I wonder why you do it so complicated, an elementor widget that contains a wppa gp widget that contains a shortcode. Why not simply the shortcodes directly in the page?

Nevertheless, i think to know the cause of the issue, therefor i need to know what the following settings are:

Table IX-A: Internal engine related settings:
    1.1 WPPA+ Filter priority
    1.2 Do_shortcode priority
1.3 WPPA shortcode at Filter priority
1.4 WPPA shortcode at Filter priority widget

Hi, we have now looked at this on a stand alone machine with our website on it. We have tried to reduce possibilities of it being a server problem, and any other plugin updates around the same time. It was working perfectly, and then when we updated the Photoalbum software and the same problem was replicated again. It seems to be the shortcodes containing album display codes and most of the photo display shortcodes. We also use shortcodes for other items eg flipbooks and tables and those shortcodes seem to be OK. We are using Elementor Pro and the Astra theme. We don’t have Yoast installed on the standalone version so have been able to discount that causing a problem.

    Hi

Think our comments overlapped. We did it that way as we thought it had to go into a shortcode widget. We’ll try putting it directly onto the page. Thanks for the heads up.

    1.1 WPPA+ Filter priority – 1001
    1.2 Do_shortcode priority – 11
1.3 WPPA shortcode at Filter priority – the box is empty
1.4 WPPA shortcode at Filter priority widget – the box is empty.

    (@opajaap)

My analysis is that the wppa shortcode is rendered too early, and the html that is produced by the shortcode handler is thrown away by another – later – process to create an elemnt that does not allow html as content.

Previously i had a way to insert the html in a later stage ( priority 11 rather than 10 ), but i dropped that for performance reasons, and the initial cause to do so is no longer actual.

I think your case is collateral damage of this simplification.

Simplifying your page code (you can align and size shortcode displays easily) would help.
If you can’t fix it that way, i will consider a new way to evaluate wppa shortcodes later in the page buolding process.

    (@siobhanf)

Hi, we’ve tried that but in order to make it work we still have to add in a widget eg the text widget, which is why we put in the proper shortcode widget as that’s designed for shortcodes. Our site has over 1000 pages with multiple shortcodes for photos and albums. This would require a major update of the website and as we are all unpaid volunteers in a charity this will not be possible. At the moment, I think the best solution would be for us to leave the old version of the plugin which works until a solution is found.

The wppa gp text widget no longer exists in version 8, because this can now be done by the standard wp text widget, that supports shortcodes.

So, if you are willing to try it out, i will supply a test version with the wppa text widget back put in, and leave it in in future versions.

Can I clarify? If you do this it will mean that we don’t have to make any changes to our shortcodes? If so yes, that would be great we’d be more than willing to try it out. We can do it on the standalone version. Thanks for your help.
