• Does anyone know how this plugin is able to be used as it relates to licensing?

My understanding is that you install this plugin which requires acquiring an API by setting up an account with Giya. When doing so there is no mention of a fee. However when I asked support about their business model I was told that the API license is $15K with a $5K setup.

So I think it is important for Gigya to be clear about the terms of use of this plugin as it does not work without the API Key.

I don’t want to apply this plugin to my site and then be squeezed to pay $20K or have the function turned off at anytime.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Thanks

    Jesse

Before any points out that the plugin code is GPL, I get that… However the plugin requires a Gigya account and the API which my understanding is that at some point they ask for a license fee.

I am OK with this I just want to know when and how this transition from free to paid occurs and thus far this information is not clearly spelled out anywhere that I can see on this site or theirs.

    Cheers

I’m interested in the Plug-in developer’s response as well!

    Hello,

As I replied in a previous post, the Gigya Socialize plugin for WordPress is currently free.

Due to its price usage, it’s probably the worse plugin.

Several other technical solutions exist for a better price and service,
but it isn’t not the relevant price for this discussion …

The only relevant answer is probably to rate it with one star …

    my 2 cents,

The Gigya Platform service (which the module uses) is free for:
    1) Non-Production testing and evaluation purposes
    2) Production use for non-commercial purposes, so long as not more than one thousand (1,000) unique member site users authenticate via the services in any calendar month.

I am also wondering about integration with buddypress – in general this is a great plub in – but how do I get buddypress register pages to acknowledge it?

we’ve installed it on our site. Let’s just say we are underwhelmed so far.

We are running WP 3.0.1 and Gigya gave us quite a headache to integrate. We do understand it is a FREE plugin, but Gigya also needs to understand we offer our site as a FREE evaluation platform (so do thousands of others).

We contacted the ‘support’ only 2 times through their forum. Took 2 days to get back at us with just generic questions. Kinda’ buying time on their site. Reading through the posts we figured it takes +7 days to get to the point from their site.

The ‘integration’ part of this plugin is awkward, requires your own API setup. Janrain had a better way to deal with that.

In our view social networking has landed on 5 sites. Unless you run a site with +100.000 hits and user we don’t see a need for 25 different credentials.

After we migrated our database onto a new server it’s broke. Obviously Gigya socialize plugin doesn’t like to be transferred (Google it up):

Warning: Missing argument 5 for GigyaSocializeForWordPress::changeAvatarImage() in /home/paircom/public_html/wp-content/plugins/gigya-socialize-for-wordpress/gs-for-wordpress.php on line 182

First question from Gigya: Did you check your migrated database?
If you want, you could follow us here.

Com’on people: If you treat your end-user THAT stupid, what do you expect? Is that the typical developer arrogance? News Flash from us: Get rid of it …

    So, rated 2 stars –

    Cheers
