• We recently migrated our site, which contains three separate instances of WordPress, from our old host provider to SiteGround. Here is my feedback on using the SG Migrator Tool:

It got stuck a couple of times without any warning or error messages, at other times it indicated the wrong error messages (complained about file permissions, instead of suggesting all plugins should be disabled before migration…). Worse, when it finally finished, I realised it didn’t pick up all the contents – for example, it missed the NextGen plugin image library, as well as other Avada theme data elements.

I ended up creating fresh WordPress instances using SG interfaces (which are excellent), then FTPed the latest backup and restored it via the free UpdraftPlus plugin. Worked perfectly. Much better option than attempting to use SG Migrator, which was a bit of a waste of time.

Regardless of this minor disappointment, SG is a great hosting provider and their technical support is excellent!

    Hello @yuvalp,

I am sorry to hear about the issues you experienced.

The plugin is designed to fetch and migrate only default WordPress data, so if the resources you are referring to were not placed in the respective directories (under wp-content/plugins or themes folders) they will not be included in the migrated website.

I am glad you managed to migrate the website successfully and wish you good luck with it from now on!

    Best Regards,
    Elena

    Hi @elenachavdarova,
    Thanks for your response.

NextGen plugin for example, is a very popular & stable plugin that installs into wp-content/plugins folder, but also creates an image library under wp-content/gallery folder. This is its default behaviour. You should really be looking at all subdirectories under wp-content folder.

In any case, these limitations should be explicitly explained before sending users on a “goose chase” :-)… save the user time and disappointment, save you the support effort.

Otherwise, I’m very happy with SG as my new host ??
    Best regards,
    Yuval.
