I have installed and uninstalled 2.9.2 so many times. Guess I’m waiting for something to change. I tried importing my .com site and when I went to reset the widgets ( which are always stuck on the themes under .org, whether you import or not), well, the widget won’t work with 2.9.2. As a matter of fact not much does work with 2.9.2. I like wordpress.com but the .org is quite disappointing. Read the forums tried all the suggestions for the umpteen problems with 2.9.2 and well It is a mess. Guess I’ll wait till 2.9.3? maybe?

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

did all that. even uninstalled .org and installed just default theme. Side bar gets stuck and very few widgets, plug ins or themes work with 2.9.2 . If I could get the widget reset plug in to work with 2.9.2 then I would be happy because then I could just import and continue.

My memory is fine. 64MB file upload. If the widget reset plug in doesn’t work then all the rest is mute. First of all I need to be able to reset the widgets. Do you know of any other way of achieving this. Every theme I upload has their widget stuck and are not registered on the sidebar on the widget page. I see no reason to continue until this is fixed.

Which widget are you referring to? Is it “stuck” to one theme in particular or all themes?

My memory is fine. 64MB file upload.

What about your PHP memory_limit in your php.ini setting?

    (@knitvision)

jdembowski – yes the memory is all fine. PHP memory_limit and all.

macmanx – All widgets that are in the sidebar defaulted with the theme I activate, even after an import of .com to .org. I am unable to remove or edit them from the widgets page. The sidebar becomes fixed and unable to edit.

Before, when I was trying to transfer a blog the widget problem was solved with the reset widget plug in. But it doesn’t work with 2.9.2. I don’t remember exactly but it was an error permanently written on the right top corner of the sidebar that said something like ” array… line 825 ..then my site and name php etc.” the only way to rid the message , after a process of elimination, was to remove wp.org from my site.

I would say that the plug in no longer works with 2.9.2

But why do I need a plug in to fix it? Is there no way to enter the fix into the program. Is there a theme with widget reset built in that works with 2.9.2?

I really want to be able to have my .com transferred and running on .org But the sidebar/widget is an issue.

There has to be a way.

Sorry, just a repeat question for clarification. Are the widgets only stuck in one theme or all themes? For example, are you able to remove or edit widgets after switching to the Default theme?

As you can probably guess, this is not normal WordPress 2.9.2 behavior, so I hope we can track down the cause for you.

    All themes.

I just reinstalled wp.org to my site and the default theme is WordPress Default 1.6 by Michael Heilemann.

None of the widgets shown in the sidebar when I visit the site is shown on the sidebar in the appearance>widgets.

This is my wp.org site. It is only the default theme.

I hope this helps and sorry it took so long to get back to you.

Every theme I upload has their widget stuck and are not registered on the sidebar on the widget page….
…None of the widgets shown in the sidebar when I visit the site is shown on the sidebar in the appearance>widgets.

Those appear to be the widgets that are built into the default theme. They aren’t actually stuck. They are hard-coded into a themes sidebar.php file and make up the themes sidebar appearance, until widgets are added by the user from the dashboard. A themes default widgets won’t usually show in Appearance > Widgets (sidebar area) because they are hard coded into the themes sidebar.php file. You can, however, replace/reorder them with widgets of your own choosing, by dragging widgets from the left side of the widgets area to the empty available sidebar sections on the right.

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Appearance_Widgets_SubPanel

That example shows you the available widgets on the left, which you should then be able to “drag and drop” into the empty sidebar containers that show on the right. That will, in most cases, remove the default widgets and allow you to place and order widgets of your own choosing.

Just an after-thought… You probably already know this, but if you choose not to put a meta widget back in your sidebar, you can access your login page by appending /wp-admin or /wp-login.php to your URL.

OK, redid everything and it is working so far. Have no idea..momentary glitch? Beats me. But it is working. Yahoo. Thanks a lot to everyone. Guess it was just a visiting gremlin.

    I’m having the same problem.

Knit Vision… do you know how to solve it?
