WordPress obviously completely forgot its founding principle- ie a great platform that anyone can use. Now it seems a platform only developers can use. Forced block editing because apparently ” blocs” are the latest and greatest. They aren’t for most and you should have the ability to turn them off. And the visual editor now is gone- you cant edit and see what it looks like on your page at the same time. Should absolutely stay as strictly an optionional plugin. To be turned on or off. Those who want the gutenberg nightmare can choose it as an option. Those who chose wordpress because it was easy to use ( which was initially the mission of WordPress) should not have to deal with the gutenberg nightmare.

  • @ntaylorh Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Can you share an example of something you’re trying to do that feels as though it’s only built for a developer? I’d love to hear some examples and to share more context/file any issues if you’re open to it.

They aren’t for most and you should have the ability to turn them off.

In case you didn’t know, you are able to turn on/off each individual blocks as you’d like under preferences:

And the visual editor now is gone- you cant edit and see what it looks like on your page at the same time.

The visual editor is what you see when you’re using the built in WordPress editor! It should allow you to see exactly what you’re creating and, if you want to get a sense of the preview, you can use the preview option to do exactly that.

Actually Annezazu at this point the question is when will Worpress wake up and realize they made a HUGE mistake with this gutenberg. When will they separate it out so those who want to deal with the gutenberg nightmare can go ahead. Those who dont can use wordpress as it used to be – SIMPLE! as to teh visual editor you used to be look at the page exactly as it appears on the internet with back ground and images and everything while editing. You did NOT have to write then switch to preview to see how it looks in entirety. Regardless there are so so many issues and problems and hours trying to figure out how to edit a simple simple things that took two seconds prior to Gutenberg!!!Gutenberg is awful. Look at the kajjilion reviews saying the same! It isnt just because its new and there is resistance- it is because it is fundamentally AWFUL!
