In backend, wp-admin, when I open a page, it appears preview layout.

Seems counter intuitive to me, if I am in the editor, it should open in edit layout, not preview layout. People are mistakenly nuking page content

I may be missing it, could not find a setting somewhere that I can have default open page in edit layout.

    Thanks
    Ron

Hm, I’m not sure what you mean.

The intent of Gutenberg is to approximate how the finished post will look as best as possible within the editor.

If that’s not what you’re seeing, would you please use https://snipboard.io/ to share a screenshot of what you’re referring to?

Thanks, I left out an important point.

The page I refer to has a Gutenberg call to SiteOrigin Page Builder layout/block.

As such, it comes in preview layout, not edit layout.

If an inexperienced person clicks on it and tries to edit, it erases the content.

I don’t think there is a way to “default” open in edit layout, so let’s call this resolved.

    Thanks

Ok, there may still be an option for you though.

I recommend asking at https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/siteorigin-panels/ so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.
