I am stumped … I’ve created a custom layout, which displays fine in the backend of WP: https://snipboard.io/JtC5F9.jpg

But when viewed on the actual page itself, it’s missing all of the featured images. The HTML element that should contain the background image information is blank.

Here’s an example of it working on my staging site:
    https://snipboard.io/VbIWoE.jpg

and here’s the live site output:
    https://snipboard.io/6z20bQ.jpg

I’ve combed over all the settings, and everything between the two sites are the exact same. I’ve regenerated the CSS; Rebuilt/cleared caches; Deleted the custom layout and re-built it over again; Exported/imported the custom layout and template from staging to live; Checked plugin version numbers are the same; I’m running out of ideas …

Has this happened before? Do you know of a fix?

    Further troubleshooting …

These post template settings seem to work to get the featured images to show:
    https://snipboard.io/iFPnv0.jpg

but these settings do not (which are the settings I want):

Interesting to note that when I try the settings that “work” to show the featured image, it completely ignores my custom layout settings for 5 columns. Really not sure what’s going on here.

    Hey Keryn

This all sounds very strange! I haven’t heard/seen these issues before.

A few questions if you don’t mind:

    1. Can you tell me, did they occur since a particular update, or are you setting up the plugin for the first time?
    2. Would you be able to enable WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG and see if there are any errors being thrown?
    3. If I was to guess, this could be a plugin / theme conflict, so I would suggest disabling them as a test to see if the issue goes a way (so we know where to look next) – would you be able to do that on a staging / dev site?

Failing all the above, the next step would be to take a direct look at your setup and do some digging.

** I saw you mention it works on staging – what happens if you copy over live “as is”, to another environment (is the issue still present)?

    Ross,

    1. No update per se. We’ve been working on a number of new features on the staging site and they wanted to push this particular one live, so I basically manually moved everything over we needed (because the two sites aren’t synced enough to push). So the plugin would have been setup for the first time on live. I tried both exporting/importing the settings and also creating from scratch. Neither worked.
    2. Some errors, but errors are mirrored on staging/live. There’s one additional caching drop-in plugin on live coming from the host.
    3. The plugins/theme are the same as the staging site so there shouldn’t be an issue there if the staging site is working.
    4. I can try this but the site is like 20GB and I’m not sure we have room on the account for a 3rd iteration of it.

Did you want to have a look or should I try scrapping custom layouts plugin altogether and starting over? Does your plugin remove all DB entries on deletion?

    Thanks,
    Keryn

    Hey Keryn

    Thanks for your replies.

I see you are using S&F pro, would you be able to contact support and mark for my attention?

Then I’d be able to get your logins and take a look around the site for any issues.

Regarding the uninstall, I’ll have to double check, I don’t think it has uninstall processes right now… However at this stage the issues you mention don’t seem related to how the layout is saved / stored.. I could be wrong though…

    Thanks

    Ross,

Just to clarify you want me to submit a support ticket at S&F Pro and inside that ticket say to contact you specifically? Versus making a support request for the Custom Layouts Plugin?

If so I’ll get that setup, just wanted to make sure.

    Cheers and thanks in advance,
    Keryn

    Hey Keryn

Yeah, via S&F pro support we can actually get access to your site ??

Here, we’re not able/allowed to do that kind of stuff…

Both plugins are made by the same team ??

    Hey Keryn

Just doing a spring clean of these forums and will close this for now as it’s over a month old.

Let me know if the issue still persists (and re-open) + if there are any other angles to look at.

    Thanks

    Hi Ross,

I just want to start by saying THANK YOU for developing search and filter pro at such a reasonable price and for developing Custom Layout at no extra cost. Not all heros wear capes! I am having a similar issue to Keryn and was just wondering if a solution was ever found.

    Thanks!

@ejobsuk from what I recall during my troubleshooting turning OFF the Jetpack plugin fixed the issue. For whatever reason getting the license for S&F hooked up was not working properly. I turned off Jetpack to connect the S&F license correctly, then cleared all caches etc. and turned Jetpack on afterwards and I believe that solved my issue.

Why it was happening I have no idea.
