Problem with custom Relationship Field REST API

I cannot reproduce your issue, however, I do encounter an issue myself.
When I try to do a REST call to a user relationship I get the full object as a response.

Is your user relationship field a relationship to the WordPress users or a custom post type called user?

Not sure if this is related but I cannot reproduce your issue anymore.

Now there is another problem. In the related field user, the response does not display the standard user fields such as email, first and last name
