Featured images broken

    Recently featured images have stopped showing up and are replace with the name of the post which links to the post. The featured images still show up in the tag archives, suggesting the problem is not with the featured images themselves. For example https://www.beyondcatastrophe.com/post_tag/writing/. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hi there,

    The WPSP list you use to display the posts (wpsp-1053) doesn’t seem to have “images” enabled.

    Can you check on WPSP setting’s Image tab if “Image” tickbox is checked? Let us know. ??

    I had unchecked the “image” tickbox because the page looked pretty bad with half of the images broken. It’s now checked so hopefully it’s now possible to see the issue. Sorry for the confusion and thanks.

    Thanks, I see now.

    This happens when a plugin tries to convert an image into another format.

    I’ve checked the site and I see you’re using Litespeed cache.

    If I remember it right, Litespeed has a feature that converts images into webp or tries to compress it. This process can break some images.

    Can you test the site with ALL plugins disabled except WPSP to check?

    Disabling all the plugins had no effect, so I disabled only Litespeed cache and then tried to regenerate the thumbnails (not sure why I didn’t try this earlier) and got an error message that WordPress could not edit images or create thumbnails and that I needed to install the gd or imagick PHP extensions. I did this and regenerated thumbnails and things seem to be working now. Somehow I guess these had been turned off? Things seem to be working now. Thanks for your help.

    Yeah this made sense. The optimization plugin took all the image media files and converted it which likely broke it.

    Regenerating them to their original format was the way to go for them to work again.
