Switching from Joomla to WordPress – Can I build WP site in the background?

    My website is currently Joomla based and I want to switchover to WordPress because it seems a lot more customizable and easier to work with than Joomla.

    I don’t remember what version of WordPress I installed, but it is the most current version.

    Is there any way I can build my wordpress site in the background while I continue to update the Joomla version of my website until I’m ready to switch everything over? I know you are able to do this with Joomla, but I don’t want to start working on switching stuff and realize I can’t do that.

    I would appreciate anyone’s input!
