why is it that every time I revise a page the permalink adds a digit at the end…for example

    https://www.blog.com/bio-4

    I would prefer

    https://www.blog.com/bio

but it won’t allow me to change it. What makes matters worse is that google search is directing users to the old permalink and it is coming up in search results as “page not found”

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • If you don’t have a page with that name existing, then it would be my guess there’s one in the trash with that name, remove the old one from the trash and the original slug will become available.

You cannot have two pages with the same slug, regardless of whether one is in the trash or not.

where do I go to get access to the trash can…?

Same way your view a list of posts or pages, when viewing the list of posts/pages, look above the list and you’ll see a Trash link.
