Hello, I created a doc in Word for Mac that includes links to headings in the same doc. I copied the text into a WordPress post ( I also saved the Word doc as html and copied that) but the links don’t work once they are in WordPress.

If using the default block editor, in the block’s settings sidebar, expand the “Advanced” item. Most blocks have a HTML Anchor field. Add a distinct word here that will be used to identify this element in links.

When you add a link to that element, type a hash # followed by that distinct word. Hit enter to submit the link. Save the document. Unfortunately, the search feature of the link dialog doesn’t work well with hashed links, but manually entering it works fine.

I wish there was a way to easily (and accurately) import Word documents, but I’ve yet to find one. Each one always seems to require massaging to get it to look and work right. And Word adds a LOT of extra HTML code that makes adapting it to theme styling very tedious. While WP editors are far from a proper word processor, they do make for better web pages IMO. You shouldn’t need to know HTML to utilize modern WP editors. I recommend abandoning Word for web pages and getting used to using a WP editor.

Thanks for your reply @bcworkz. Since I wrote this I found a solution via the Advanced Editor Tools plugin (previously TinyMCE Advanced). It includes am anchor option even without me using blocks. Haven’t mastered those yet, but they are on my list.
