• Hi there!

For some reason, when this plugin gets activated, the site starts giving horrible timeouts everywhere. There are not many errors on the logs, basically just a timeout notice, although now and then there is an error about failing to contact the database. However, not even that is very consistently shown in the errors. It just kind of silently fails for no reason. The WordPress backoffice completely stops working, while, at the frontend, the few things that are being directly fetched from the cache by nginx still show (since these are directly fetched from the disk, bypassing PHP/WP entirely).

To be sure that themeegg-toolkit is the culprit, I turned all plugins off, and then tested activating/deactivating this plugin. It’s clear that it is the only one responsible for the behaviour I’m seeing. I’ve also attempted to remove the plugin completely and reinstall it from scratch, but that didn’t work, either. Having the plugin installed by itself does not cause any problems; it’s just when it activates that everything breaks down.

I’m using the free versions of Eggnews 1.4.18 with Newsportal Magazine 1.0.3, running under WordPress 5.8.2 on PHP 8.0 (I’ve briefly experimented with 8.1 as well, with the same results). Technically speaking, since all that themeegg-toolkit does is to generate a new site with demo content from scratch, the truth is that I don’t need this plugin anymore (unless future versions will bring additional features…); I’m just reporting it to allow your team to take a close look at its current behaviour (especially because you mention that your own plugin was developed roughly inspired on a third-party plugin for their respective framework, and thus actual development may not be carried by your team</en> at all).
