Blurry Product Category Pictures

    I’ve been having trouble with blurry pictures in my store.

    Initially some of these blurry images were product images in the catalog pages, but changing my Customizer>Woocommerce>Product Images Thumbnail Width setting to 800 has fixed that. Will this slow my site down a lot?

    The problem I’m left with is blurry category pictures. I’ve set it up so that the shop page displays categories and each category page displays subcategories, etc. Each category/subcategory has a thumbnail image.

    Some of these are clear (Grains), others are blurry (Legumes). Sometimes resizing the window or zooming the page in and out causes the blurry images to become clear. When blurry, inspect element shows that both clear and blurry images have the same rendered size, but different intrinsic sizes (e.g. 200×150 v.s. 800×600). I think the problem is simply that the intrinsic size is less than the rendered size, but I don’t know why it is – all of these images are uploaded as either 800*600 or 900*725. What could be going on here?

    I’ve tried regenerating thumbnails using the plugin of that name without effect. Woocommerce is up to date, so I don’t see how this (https://woocommerce.com/document/fixing-blurry-product-images/) often-referenced article would apply.

    Hi @wieand,

    As a first step, to get a better understanding, could you share a link to your site as well as your site’s System Status?

    You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

At the moment, your site is behind a login, and providing login information, even test IDs and test passwords is not permitted, according to the forum guidelines:

    Temporarily publishing the site and letting the users on this forum have a look at the code output to troubleshoot the issue may be a good idea. You also have an option under WP Dashboard > Settings > Reading to disable search engine indexing:

    I’ve kept working on this problem, and I think I may have found something that resolves it.

    Some of the category/subcategory pictures were 900×725 and others were 800×600. It seems that the 800×600 ones were the ones that weren’t rendering properly. I’ve replaced them and the blurriness seems to be gone.

    Based on the inspector, these pictures were being rendered on the page at far lower resolutions than either set of values given above. Why would one work better than another? Since I don’t yet understand what’s going on here and want to be confident that I have the knowledge to solve any future issues, I’m going to leave this thread unresolved for now.

    If you reproduce the issue using the Storefront theme, is it the same?
