So I just recently tried to go into my WP admin and fix some of my page and it seems that Jetpack is causing them to be unreachable. I went through and shut off all my plug-ins with no issues with any others just Jetpack. I’m assuming it could be my theme of Uptown Style but is this a known issue?

    Hi @jredwardspdc

Can you tell us a little more about what you mean by Jetpack is causing pages to be unreachable?

Could you also please post your site URL here so that we can have a look?

If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via this contact form. If you choose to reach out directly, please include a link to this thread.

    Thanks!

Sure thing! I have been having issues being able to reach certain pages on my WP backend. One of the troubleshooting tips is to disable all plug-ins. (Not trying to insult as I’m sure you already know this). I have had issues a few times before and disabling Jetpack fixed it. Well this time I was unable to reach my backend pages editor when Jetpack is installed. Below is my website as requested:

    Hi @jredwardspdc

Thanks! One thing I noticed is that your host (or a security plugin) is limiting connections to the xmlrpc.php file.

I’d suggest checking contacting your hosting provider and asking them to check their security logs to see if they are blocking or otherwise limiting incoming and outgoing connections over XML-RPC.

Jetpack uses this file to communicate with your site, but some hosts block connection requests to that file.

Our requests look like the following:

    – File: https://www.jredwardspdc.com/xmlrpc.php
    – User-agent header: Jetpack by WordPress.com
    – IPs: https://jetpack.com/support/how-to-allowlist-jetpack-ip/

Please ask them to allowlist the IP addresses listed above. Note that these IP addresses could change (or more could be added) at any time, which could break your connection to Jetpack. For this reason, we actually discourage allowing specific IPs, although with some hosts it may be the only option.

Let us know how that goes.

Awesome, thanks for the quick response and tip. I will reach out to them and get back with the outcome.

According to my host (GoDaddy) I am on a shared resource server and no IPs are blocked.

    (@jredwardspdc)

Also to note, I have no security plug-ins on my site.

I am also being told that due to the fact that I’m using a shared platform, Jetpack may not be supported as there is no blacklist in the first place. They are recommending I upgrade to a dedicated server which would come with a security plan and allow me the access to whitelist the IPs.

So it seems that, as usual, GD is blaming the plug-in and wanting more money out of me in order to have access to “possibly” fix the issue by allowing me access to whitelisting capabilities.

    Hi @jredwardspdc

I am sorry to hear that; I can see that Jetpack is having trouble accessing your XML-RPC endpoint most of the time, as we’re getting a 503 Service Unavailable response there; this could be related to the whitelisting issue. I’d suggest raising this with your host, so they can find what’s causing that.

You can then reconnect Jetpack by following the steps outlined in our guide:

    https://jetpack.com/support/reconnecting-reinstalling-jetpack/

Do let us know if this works so we can recheck the Jetpack connection.

    Best,

That was the previous recommendation which I already did. I have also already completed the steps on that page multiple times in the past and over the past week.

So after contacting my host and realizing they are useless in this situation, is there anything I can do on my own? They keep pushing for me to spend more money on a VPS or stand-alone server. I do not have enough traffic or a robust enough page to see spending the extra money on those items.

    Hello,

In this case, and if you truly want to make use of Jetpack’s features, I might suggest that you consider migrating your site to a different webhost that is more used to working with Jetpack and whitelisting requests.

We have a guide here, if you’d like to check some of them out:

    https://jetpack.com/hosting

Otherwise, the only other thing I might recommend is trying to talk to a higher level of support at GoDaddy to see if you can talk to someone familiar with whitelisting that may be able to handle it for you.

Thanks MadHatter, I wasn’t wanting that answer but I know it is probably what will end up needing to be done.

*Edit* Unfortunately for me, client paid for 3 year hosting on GD.

New issue that is happening is I figured I would try to start it up again and see if anything changed. Now it’s saying:

Jetpack encountered an error and was unable to display the Dashboard. Please try refreshing the page.

Refreshing does nothing. Still tinkering at the moment to make sure I try everything before contacting GD back about the issue. I’ll give update in just a few.

After doing further research it seems I had a misunderstanding. The Jetpack plug-in is NOT required for the use of the WooCommerce plug-in on my site. Also it was found that the Jetpack plug-in is using too many resources and causing my site to bog down and go offline. I can’t use some default settings inside of WP when it is activated and overall it is just burdening my host. Thank you all for your assistance and guidance.

    Hi @jredwardspdc

Jetpack isn’t required when using the WooCommerce plugin, except when printing USP labels or calculating/adding taxes automatically using Jetpack’s features.

Jetpack has a lot of features and modules, and they can be separately disabled or enabled on the Modules page:

    https://YOUR-SITE-URL.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=jetpack_modules

I can see that you’ve gone ahead and disabled from your site; feel free to reach out to us if you need help troubleshooting, we’re always happy to help ??

    Best,
