Media Protection
-
Just an inquiry regarding protecting “Media”.
I have a membership site with images and PDFs available to members. Members log in to gain access to content. The Content Control plugin has been BRILLIANT for protecting pages and posts. (Very grateful for that.)
Unfortunately, the links to the media on my pages (like PDFs) can be accessed by non-members meaning they could bypass the need for a membership. In the Content Control plugin, I’ve set a restriction to access of “A Media” to logged in members and admins but it doesn’t seem to do anything.
In searching around, I’ve found several plugins dedicated to protecting media, but I’d really like to avoid piling on more and more plugins.
Incidentally, I found this topic covered in an earlier support post from two years ago, where a solution was suggested:
“What I thought the plugin would/should do is, that it spots the media during rendering and change the URI, so that it goes through your WP code to check the authorization, either serve the file or redirect to the login page.
The created URI should be obfuscated (e.g. using postId), it should not use the media filename (as a part or complete) within the uploads folder, as that one is directly accessible and not protected.”
So just wondering if I just haven’t set something up correctly, it takes time for the protection to take hold, if this is a pro feature, or any other suggestions really.
Again, super happy with the plugin as is.
Have a great week!
