Wincher integration

    I just saw the notification for Yoast 17.9 and its integration with yet another third-party service I’ve never heard of (Wincher?). Therefore, I must ask yet again:

    1. Is this integration turned on by default upon upgrade to 17.9?
    2. What data, if any, does this integration send to Wincher or other third parties?
    3. If it does send any data to third parties, to whose privacy policy (or privacy policies) is that data subject? Is there a data processing agreement or CCPA service provider agreement that will cover that sharing of data? (I don’t see any reference to either in a quick look at the Wincher website.)
    4. If I do not intend to use this integration, does it send any data to third parties (e.g., upon activation of the updated plugin)?

    I continue to be frustrated at the integration of more and more third-party integrations in the Yoast SEO plugin. Each time, they raise the same questions about data protection, about which your team really seems remarkably unconcerned, and the amount of bloat is unwelcome. If you want to add this kind of promotional bloatware, can’t you keep it to your premium products?

    You have asked a few questions about our newest release, so let’s dive in:

    1. Yes, the integration toggle (found on SEO → General → Integrations) is set to “On” when installing 17.9 on a site, or when you upgrade to it on an existing site. Please know that having this toggle set to “On” does nothing other than adding the option in the Yoast sidebar and metabox named “Track SEO performance”. Clicking that opens a modal with a Connect button where you can connect your site to the Wincher service. When you never use or connect your site to their service, there is nothing sent anywhere. You can set the toggle to Off if you don’t want to see the option in the metabox / Yoast sidebar all together.

    2. If you would use the service and connect your Wincher account to your site – the only information that is shared is the permalink of the post and the key phrases on the post you’d track the performance on.

    3. As long as you are not using or connecting, nothing is ever sent from your site to the Wincher service.

    4. No. And as said in 1. – you can set the toggle to off and you won’t see the “Track SEO performance” option in the sidebar nor in the metabox.
