hi! we are in the process of migrating our wordpress site from Godaddy to Bluehost. However instead of migrating across we created a site locally and now imported it to Bluehost. The sites use the same theme and are pretty much replicas but we opted not to do a migration to clear out some redundant data etc.

We have a requirement to move 2 pages from the Godaddy to Bluehost but struggling to do it as each time we use the import/export we are getting lots of duplication. Deleting the pages in WP beforehand on Bluehost does not seem to help. Bluehost database has not been touched so far.

How would we go about overwriting the two pages? Is there a way to export just the two pages and when importing enforce and overwrite?

    thank you

    jay

  • Are you sure you are removing the deleted pages from the permanent Trash?

If it’s only two pages, can you just re-create those two pages manually on the site at Bluehost?

    > How would we go about overwriting the two pages?

It doesn’t really work that way.
If you are exporting and importing using the Tools -> Import / Export, this tool is only responsibile for migrating the data in XML.

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Let’s say I have Pages 1 to 10, named Page1, Page2 and so on in both sites with Page1 being the homepage as an example.

Can I simply export the pages from godaddy, delete from thrash on Bluehost Pages 1 to 10 which got installed with the theme and then import Pages 1 to 10 which include some code modifications on a couple of the pages?

    thank you.

Well – to answer this directly –>
“Can I simply export the pages from godaddy, delete from thrash on Bluehost Pages 1 to 10 which got installed with the theme and then import Pages 1 to 10 which include some code modifications on a couple of the pages?”

    Yes. You can.

Either way – Page1 will be assigned as the homepage in your settings:
Admin –> Settings –> Reading –> select homepage.

If it were me, I would just migrate all pages and then clean up / delete / update the pages that live on the Bluehost server.
It’s less labour to delete in bulk on the Bluehost server than it is to migrate pages out of the site on the Godaddy server one-by-one.

I followed your instructions and it did not work – header menus and pages all messed ??

I forgot to mention that the pages are part of a purchased theme (real homes) and created with elementor – should this make a differnce?

See what I mean? Just migrate it all and then delete.

I assume you have the Real Homes theme installed on the Bluehost site?
I assume you have Elementor installed on the Bluehost site?

Actually I rushed to say it didnt work as it is only the top menus that lost the setting and otherwise the pages are perfectly fine.

thank you also for the tip on the reading setting – that was important as had lost it and would have not figured it out without a lot of pain!!!

    thanks again.
