    Hi,

    recently we started getting the Warning mentioned below pointed out by Query Monitor and it seems that it happens only on the frontend.

    We use CF and the “CF-Connecting-IP” is set in Wordfence All Options page. In the All options page, Wordfence seems to get the IP just fine, but on the frontend Query Monitor reports the following error.

    Warning: inet_pton(): Unrecognized address
    in: wp-content/plugins/wordfence/vendor/wordfence/wf-waf/src/lib/utils.php:28
    component: Plugin: query-monitor

    WF version: 7.5.7
    QM version: 3.8.2
    WP version: 5.5.8

    I stumbled upon some older forum posts where they suggest checking whether php has ipv6 enabled – so I checked and it has it enabled and recognizes it fine in the traffic section of WF. And the Warning is happening, when WF sees my IP as v4 too.

    Thanks for the plugin and any help ??
    Bests

    Hi @glashsix, thanks for getting in touch.

    As this is a PHP warning rather than a fatal error, I would mainly be concerned if this is causing site issues or inconsistent results in Wordfence or WordPress. Running Query Monitor tends to also display warnings for silent failures as we sometimes utilize WordPress’ $wpdb->suppress_errors(true); function in situations we know an error may occur. Query Manager however ignores this intentional error suppression inbuilt into WordPress and presents them as issues to customers.

    If you’re seeing results that seem wrong related to IPs in Live Traffic or isn’t performing IP blocks properly then it certainly needs a bit more investigation. You could provide us with a site diagnostic to help see what might be causing it in this case to wftest @ wordfence . com. You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

    NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

    Thanks,

    Peter.
