WP v5.9 Latest posts: Unable to format post title

I’m building a new website and I want to display three post excerpts on my home page, showing each post title, a thumbnail image from the post and an excerpt of text from the post.

Before WP v5.9 appeared, I was able to display the excerpts as an eye-catching title, thumbnail pic and the post date. I didn’t think the date was important, so I was happy when v5.9 appeared, and instead of the post date, I was able to include a short text excerpt.

However with the v5.9 version, the title no longer appears above the thumbnail pic, and I am unable to format it – it just runs into the text, and is barely noticeable. Is there a way to fix this?

I have kept the original “service block” of latest posts on the home page, showing title, pic and date, and directly underneath that is the new “latest posts” version.
