shortcode to show most popular for limited date range?

I currently use the shortcode below to show the most popular products from my catalog, however since trends change over time, I would like to show the most popular for the past year, not the most popular for all time. Is there a way to do that?

[products category=”phone-cases” columns=”4″ orderby=”popularity” DESC limit=8]

I think I could figure out how to limit it to items posted within the last year, but I don’t want to do that. I want to include products posted in all time, but ordered by popularity within the last year.
