Using CDN for instruction videos

    Hi, I’m thinking about adding instruction videos to my recipes, instead of having pictures. But I am concerned about the amount of data transfer.

    I was thinking about solutions, and I saw that some CDNs cost ok (such as Bunny CDN, I think). I don’t know if you would suggest another one or another solution?

    If I decide to use a CDN, is there a way to link the instruction videos to the video stored at the CDN (Bunny Stream or another one)? Because it seems the only option I have on wprm is to click and select a video I uploaded to my wordpress server.

    Personally I would recommend embedding from Vimeo or YouTube instead of uploading yourself.

    That way they handle the hosting and you get potential search traffic from their end as well.

    Is there a specific reason you’d want to upload instead?

    Just to be clear: when you hover over the instruction media icons you should find “Embed Instruction Video” right next to “Upload Instruction Video”.

    Oh, thanks, I did not see there was an embed video link. Sorry for that!

    I was trying to build pages similarly to what Bon Appetit does:

    I was unsure Youtube would be a good solution (so many requests to youtube in one page will not slow down the site?). I also have a youtube channel, and did not want to mix the whole videos with step-by-steps pieces of videos.

    A CDN should work as well. I haven’t tested that myself, so I can’t really recommend any.

    There are plugins like https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-youtube-lyte/ that can help improve YT performance as well. Or using Vimeo for this might work, if you don’t want them on YouTube.
