    Hi.

I’ve acquired a good domain name and want to ask a couple of questions:

Let’s say, I currently own abc.com and have the wordpress installed in /index directory. So, whenever someone opens abc.com, the url abc.com/index/ opens.

Now, my new domain has name “xyz.com” and I will be restoring its backup to the new domain, which will make the new domain appear like this, “xyz.com/index/ to point to the new url. Also, since in future I would like to get rid of this /index/ thing, I will be doing a new, fresh WP installation in the xyz.com’s root directory.

So, my question is simple – will everything work seamlessly with two WP installations?

  • Hi

No. Two WordPress installations will not work in the same folder.
You need to different istallation location for each copy of WordPress.

I think if you create an addon domain then you would still get https://www.abc.com and https://www.xyz.com and they would run in their respective addon folders created using cPanel

Otherwise by doing a manual install in the same folder or migration will not work.

In both cases, just change the two URL values in Settings/General first, then move the files. Everything will work seamlessly, as long as you don’t have two WordPress installations in the same directory. See this for more info:

First of all, thanks for the replies. Appreciated.

Now, here is the thing – I will be merely moving abc.com/index/ to xyz.com/index/ and then will be making another WP installation in the root directory, that is, xyz.com/. So, since both the installation are in different directory, there should be no problems, right?

That is correct. Just move abc.com/index/ to xyz.com/index/ and then install WordPress at xyz.com for your second blog.
