One thing a plugin should NEVER EVER do is to quietly slip in an update without changing the version number. This will trigger a security alert from WordFence and result in you needing to spend time figuring out what happened by looking at the differences in the HTML/CSS. If you can read those, like I can, it’s an extremely annoying waste of time. If you can’t, it’s potentially very scary.

So what have these silent updates been? Advertisements for their Christmas sale last year, and now another ad for their “lifetime” package offering. It’s not even a feature update, it’s just an attempt to upsell!

Soon as I find a decent backup plugin, this thing is going in the trash heap. This is insanely stupid. Please don’t install this plugin, there HAS to be a better one out there.

Edit as of August 26th, 2022:
This is the fourth or fifth time in a year you’ve done exactly this. For the love of all that’s holy, STOP THAT CRAP!

    Dear @firehawke ,

We are very sad to see your feedback and so sorry for the inconvenience you faced.
However, we are not sure, if we can understand what you mean.
In case you complain about changing the pro version of the plugin, we have changed it from version 1.6.8.1 to 1.6.8.4

As for the free version, we have changed it to 1.6.8.5

May we ask you to clarify a little bit what issues you faced exactly and how the Wordfence reported those?

Also, as it is not allowed to discuss the pro features in this forum, please, send some details on the issue to the [email protected] email address, so we can assist accordingly.

We hope to hear from you soon, so we will check and do our best to improve your experience with us.

    Best,
    BackupGuard Team
