Default sorting order

I’ve added a sorting filter widget to sidebar with several sorting options which do work as expected when selected. However, when page loads, posts are not sorted (just the normal WordPress order). Is there a way to have posts appear in order specified by sorting filter when page loads instead of having to select that order?
E. g. I’d like the posts (plants) to appear in genus species order when page loads.
